Why is everyone so obsessed with having a dog? what's the fascination? i don't see it!?

I guess it is because it's like a human being that will always love you no matter what and it will always stay loyal. Personally after having pets for more than ten years I am just tired of all the responsibility that comes from having the pet so I wouldn't want to have a dog.
