What's the fascination with the real housewives tv shows?

I am a middle class guy and my wife loves these shows. I don't get it. It is the Real Housewives of... Atlanta, NJ, etc.What makes these shows interesting? I watch funny shows like American Dad, South Park, and Tosh. O.
