Why did R&B&Soul have to adopt new jack swing?

My parents are old school like Marvin Gaye,Stevie wonder,Curtis Mayfield and honestly I like that better than the R&B after the 1980's like R Kelly and all that.Some rappers were complaining because they couldn't get rap on the radio hat R&B was too comemercial so Teddy Riley mixed hip hop with R&B which I hated and I feel ruined both genres.
